Zapier Agents is Zapier’s AI agent product, sitting on top of the app-integration platform the company has been building for years. The page title reads Build AI teammates with Zapier Agents and the H1 is Meet your new AI teammates.
The hero copy is precise about the pitch: Create your own superhuman teammates in minutes. Equip your Agents with company knowledge and have them do work across 9,000+ apps — on command and while you sleep. The product was previously called Zapier Central; the launch post says plainly that Zapier Central becomes Zapier Agents. The builder lives at agents.zapier.com.
Say the obvious thing first, because it decides a lot of evaluations: for sheer connector breadth, Zapier is very likely still your answer. On 8 August 2026, zapier.com/apps read verbatim that Zapier connects 9922+ apps. Nothing else on this page is close, ours included. If your agent’s job is to touch a long tail of business apps and nobody wants to run infrastructure, that one row settles it.
What follows is for everyone else: the operator who has already proved the connector case and now finds the agent hitting a per-run ceiling, or wants agent-to-agent handoffs, cost per run, or approvals below Enterprise. AI Agentics makes an AI agent platform, so we have a horse in this race. We have tried to describe every option here as its own team would — including the cases where another platform is the better buy. Vendors ship fast and pricing changes; verify current details on each vendor’s own site before you commit.
Why teams compare Zapier Agents — and where it still wins
None of these are damning. They are the specific frictions that send an otherwise happy Zapier customer back to the market, and one of them is an argument for upgrading rather than leaving.
- Agent capacity is small in absolute terms and hard-capped per run. Zapier's usage documentation lists Free at 400 activities a month and 10 per run, Pro at 1,500 a month and 40 per run — and almost every meaningful step counts as one activity: a trigger, a knowledge-source lookup, an action, a web browse or scrape, a web search, a Chrome Extension message.
- Depth of reasoning has a ceiling you can hit in a single run. Forty activities is a lot of simple steps and not many complex ones. If your agent needs to read three systems, reason, call six tools and write back, you are budgeting against the ceiling rather than the month.
- Task pricing on the underlying Zap platform scales with volume. The Pro ladder runs from $19.99 a month for 750 tasks to $3,389 a month for 2 million on annual billing, and monthly billing is roughly 50% higher than annual. Agents are metered separately, so a serious agent programme sits on top of that, not inside it.
- Multi-agent orchestration is not the shape of the product. Zapier's 2025 restructuring turned behaviors into individual agents that can be grouped within a pod, which is a grouping concept — not agents handing work to one another with conditions and approvals in between.
- Cost per run is hard to see. The Agents surface gives you an activity count and an all-activity dashboard, but the platform does not publish per-run model cost or latency attribution, and Zapier does not name the model powering Agents at all.
- Governance sits at Enterprise. SSO, SCIM, RBAC, action-level permissioning, App Access Controls, Managed Connections, BYOM, log streaming, AI Guardrails and VPC Peering are all published on the Enterprise page. Small teams that need approvals and audit before they need scale face a sales conversation.
- Team-tier agent capacity is not published. Zapier's activity table covers Free, Pro and Enterprise only; Team accounts are described as sharing a pool without a stated number, so you cannot size a Team plan for agents from public docs. Ask sales.
- Before rebuilding anything, check whether your real complaint is the tier rather than the product. Testing counts toward quota on Free but not on Pro or Enterprise, so a lot of "we ran out" evaluations are actually an argument for upgrading.

Zapier is hosted on AWS in the United States; its Enterprise VPC Peering creates a private network path between Zapier and your AWS resources, which is genuinely useful but is a network connection, not a deployment. n8n installs on your own hardware. The costs are real — its docs mark self-hosting as requiring setup via npm, Docker or a server, with technical expertise required, and its v3.0 release is documented as planned for October 2026 with Docker-only self-hosting. Choose n8n when the runtime must sit inside your network, or when your agent runs are long enough that whole-workflow execution billing beats per-activity metering.
Relevance AI is the closest structural match for a Zapier operator who wants agents rather than automations. Multi-agent orchestration is first-class — the docs define Workforces as multi-agent workflows with triggers, conditions and agent-to-agent handoffs — and approvals are a canvas primitive. It is addressable from a canvas, from natural language, or programmatically over MCP, and its docs state that Vendor Credits cover LLM and tool usage at wholesale with no markup. The frictions are commercial: two meters to forecast, and a marketing pricing page that as of August 2026 shows only Enterprise while the full ladder survives in the docs. Choose Relevance AI when the work is genuinely multi-agent and you have a technically-minded owner in RevOps or growth.
Lindy is a narrower product than Zapier and better at that narrow thing. Its homepage is written in the first person — “I organize your inbox, and draft your replies” — and its pricing FAQ says getting started takes about 60 seconds. It is delivered over iMessage and SMS as well as the web, which is unusual. There is no free tier, only a 7-day trial; published capacity is relative rather than absolute (Standard usage, 3x, 7x); credits do not roll over; and overage is charged at twice the plan rate. Choose Lindy when the real problem is one person’s inbox, calendar and meeting admin, not a fleet of business-process agents.
Make earns its place on the shortlist without us inventing details for it. It is the other mature hosted visual automation platform, named alongside Zapier in Wikipedia’s description of what n8n is an alternative to, and it turns up in real buyer reviews of both neighbours — one firsthand Lindy reviewer concluded that some automations are still better suited to traditional workflow builders like Make.com. Verify its current agent capabilities and pricing on its own site. Copilot Studio gets the same treatment, plus a pointer to the dedicated comparison — it is the natural shortlist entry when Microsoft 365 and Entra already define your identity and compliance perimeter.
Where we fit — and where we do not
AI Agentics is a hosted platform for the thing Zapier operators usually want next: an agent that plans its own steps inside tools and guardrails you define, with the whole run legible afterwards. Build in the no-code visual builder (Agent Studio) or drop into the TypeScript and Python SDKs when a step needs real code — 100+ templates and 200+ integrations including Slack, Gmail, GitHub, Notion, SQL and REST.
The differences that usually decide it against activity-metered agents: multi-agent teams with handoffs rather than agents grouped for tidiness, live streaming run traces with per-run cost and latency attached, guardrails for PII redaction, blocked topics and cost ceilings, and human-in-the-loop approvals on the steps that write. Two honest limitations. We are fully hosted SaaS — no self-hosting, no VPC edition, no on-prem — and our 200+ integrations are not in the same league as a catalog reading 9922+ apps.

Activities, tasks, executions, runs — model the meter, not the price
This row decides more Zapier evaluations than any other, and it is the one buyers consistently skip because the headline prices look comparable.
Zapier bills Agents in activities, separately from the tasks that meter Zaps. That separation is a genuine strength: agent experiments do not eat your automation budget, and you can pilot without touching a production task allowance. It also means two budgets to forecast rather than one.
The definition is what matters. Zapier’s help documentation says an activity is any billable action your agent takes, counted when the agent uses a trigger, answers a question from a knowledge source, runs an action, performs a web browsing or scraping request, performs a web search, or you send it a message via the Chrome Extension. In other words, an activity is roughly a step, not a run.
Compare that with the alternatives and the same twelve-step agent prices very differently. On n8n it is one execution — the pricing page states an execution is a single run of your entire workflow, regardless of how many steps it contains or how much data it processes. On Relevance AI it is one Action, since the docs count an Action when an agent runs a tool whether that is sending one email or a complex workflow with many steps. On Zapier Agents it is up to twelve activities, against a ceiling of 40 per run.
Zapier does two things well here that deserve credit. Overage is not a bill shock: agents may accrue extra activities to finish an in-flight run and you are not charged for them, though you cannot start new activities until the next billing date or an upgrade. And the per-run ceiling is a real runaway-cost guard, which anyone who has watched an agent loop will appreciate.
1. Count steps in one real run
Take a workflow you already run and count every trigger, knowledge lookup, tool call, web search and write. That number is your activity cost per run on Zapier — and it is one execution on n8n, one Action on Relevance AI, one run on AI Agentics.
2. Check the ceiling before the budget
Ten activities per run on Free and 40 on Pro and Enterprise is a hard cap, not a soft one. A workflow that needs 60 steps does not cost more — it does not complete. Test your longest realistic run first, not your simplest.
3. Add the underlying task budget
Agents are metered separately from Zaps, so if agents will trigger or be triggered by Zaps, model both ladders. The Pro task ladder runs $19.99 to $3,389 a month on annual billing, and monthly billing is roughly 50% higher.
4. Ask what a run costs, not what a plan costs
Activity counts tell you consumption, not spend on models. If you need per-run cost and latency attached to a trace — for chargeback, for tuning, or just to know which agent is expensive — check that the platform publishes it before you commit.
Most teams end up running both
The realistic end state is not one platform winning. Deterministic plumbing — scheduled syncs, webhooks, notifications across a long tail of SaaS — stays cheapest and simplest as Zaps, and no dedicated agent platform will match that catalog. The judgement-heavy middle, where a human currently reads something and decides, is where agentic design earns its keep. Splitting the estate that way beats forcing either tool to cover both. One row Zapier wins outright
Read the integrations row and be honest about it. Zapier’s catalog is an order of magnitude larger than anything else in the table, and Wikipedia records the platform supporting more than 9,000 distinct web applications and over 66,000 individual automated triggers and actions as of 2026, plus an official Model Context Protocol integration that lets external AI clients invoke Zapier actions. If your shortlist criterion is “does it connect to our stack,” the evaluation is already over.
What Zapier Agents is genuinely good at
If you already run Zaps and none of the frictions below bite you, staying put is the right answer — and we will not pretend otherwise.

- Genuinely no-code. An agent is created from a plain-English instruction plus app connections, with Zapier Copilot doing configuration work — the fastest path from idea to running agent for a non-technical operator.

- A real free tier for Agents: 400 activities a month, so the product can be evaluated without a purchase.

Frictions
- Agent capacity is small in absolute terms and hard-capped per run: 400 activities a month at 10 per run on Free, 1,500 at 40 per run on Pro, with nearly every step counting as one activity.
- On Free, testing counts toward the quota, so evaluation consumes the same 400 activities as production. Running out pauses work rather than overbilling — you cannot run new activities until the next billing date or an upgrade.
- The published activity table covers Free, Pro and Enterprise only. Team accounts share a pool without a stated number, so Team-level agent capacity cannot be sized from public docs.
- There is a daily chat rate limit of 500 messages per day, and the same help article warns that long instructions can hit token limits, advising you to decrease the length of your instructions.

Choose Zapier Agents when breadth of SaaS connectivity is the whole problem and nobody on the team wants to run infrastructure. It is also the right pick when you already run Zaps and want agentic behaviour metered on a separate budget, or when you need enterprise IT controls plus a private path to internal AWS data via VPC Peering without a deployment project. Do not choose it if you need to run the platform inside your own environment, need deterministic step-level control over a long pipeline, or need runs longer than a few dozen activities.
A two-week test that produces a real answer
Demos are designed to succeed. Rebuild one agent you actually need, on two platforms, with your own credentials and your own edge cases.
- Answer the connector question first. If the agent must touch apps nothing else integrates with, most of this page is moot and you are staying on Zapier.
- Answer the deployment question second. If the runtime must sit inside your network, n8n is the only option here that self-hosts — and Zapier's VPC Peering is a network path, not a deployment.
- Pick your longest realistic agent, not your simplest one, and count the activities a single run consumes before you count the month.
- Rebuild it end to end on two shortlisted platforms with real credentials in a sandbox, and include the awkward edge cases you already know about.
- Force three failures on purpose: a revoked token, a malformed record, a rate limit. Time how long root cause takes on each, and check whether an approval can gate the exact step that writes to production.
- Project a real month against each meter — activities, tasks, executions, Actions plus Vendor Credits, or runs — then add model spend separately. Remember Zapier Agents and Zaps are two budgets.
- Confirm where governance sits on the ladder before you fall for a builder: SSO, SCIM and RBAC are Enterprise at Zapier, Relevance AI and Lindy, and start at the 667€/month Business tier on n8n.
- Check what a failed run tells you. Ask each vendor for a trace of a real multi-tool run and see whether it carries per-step inputs, outputs, cost and latency, or just an activity count.
Two details save the most time. Run the failure tests in week one — they are the fastest way to eliminate a finalist. And run the Zapier evaluation on Pro rather than Free if you can, because testing counts toward quota on Free and you will otherwise spend the trial arguing with a limit that would not exist in production. If you remember one line, make it this: Zapier’s frictions are about agent depth and per-run ceilings, not about capability or coverage — and its one decisive advantage, the connector catalog, is the hardest thing on this page to replace. Decide connectivity first. If the answer is “we need the long tail,” close the tab and upgrade a tier. If the answer is “we already connect to everything we need,” the real question is how much of the plan you want the model to own.
A hybrid is often the best outcome and rarely gets proposed.
